I jest największym parkiem narodowym w Polsce. Obejmuje dolinę Biebrzy począwszy od jej źródeł, a skończywszy na ujściu do Narwi. Niemal cała Biebrza znajduje się na terenie parku (ok. 155 km). Położony jest w północno - wschodniej części kraju, na terenie województwa podlaskiego. Powierzchnia Parku wynosi 59223 ha. Obszary leśne w Parku zajmują 15547 ha, grunty rolne - 18182 ha, a nieużytki - słynne Bagna Biebrzańskie, w rzeczywistości najbardziej cenne przyrodniczo ekosystemy - 25494 ha.
